This primary source really explains the nature of king Charlemagne, his lifestyle while being the Roman Empereor. Einhard being the author of the passage is perhaps talking to lower class society after Charlemagnes death; explaining t ot them how great a man Charlemagne was.
Charlemagne had a good heart, and he seemed to have loved the luxuries of being the Emperor of Rome than actually ruling over his people effectively. However he did help others by inviting, ” not only his sons to his bath, but his nobles and friends, and now and then a troop of his retinue or body guard.” His followers liked him and his fluent speech helped persuade his ideas to his people. This made for a more stable society and efficient government.
